Long Weekend

It's the 4th of July weekend and Mommy and Daddy is off for a really long weekend with me. Thems have four days off. Me is so excited to have all this time with them. It's only Saturday and already me has done all kinds of things

Mommy usually takes me with her to tha bank on Saturday morning so me knows me is going to get a dog biscuit and sits with me head out tha window and looks very handsome. As usual Mommy took me to tha bank with her this morning and the ladies in the window for tha drive through thought me was very very handsome. Thems knew me was waiting for me biscuit and was very happy to give me one. Then Mommy tooked me home and went to run some errands and her came home with a surprise for me. Her's brought me a swiming pool. Me isn't really sure what to do with it but Mommy said her was going to take some pictures as soon as her batteries for tha camera recharge. Me thinks me is supposed to get in tha pool but me isn't real sure.

Then the most exciting thing happened. Mommy said to Daddy lets go on a picnic and lets take Murphy with us. And thems did. We went to KFC and Mommy bought some chicken for thems and hers had packed some chicken breasts from last week for me. We headed up the mountain to find a picnic place. Daddy pulled over at the picnic area of Buffalo Bill's Grave Site and we had a really nice dinner but that wasn't the bestest part.

The best part of tha whole day was later when we went to Genesse Park. We was driving up tha mountain and suddenly Mommy said "There's a bear!!!!" Her yelled for Daddy to back up so we could see tha bear. Now according to Mommy if you lived in Chicago (wherever that is) you would say "da Bear" but since we is in Colorado her just said "a bear". Sure enough Daddy backed the car up and there on Mommy's side of tha car, out in tha woods was a big ole black bear. Hims was just ambling peacefully along. Well me was really excited and had me head hanging out tha window and one foot too, just sniffing in the smell of that ole bear. Mommy was worried me might try to jump out of tha window and go after tha bear. Daddy was worried Mommy would get out of tha car to get a closer look at the bear. Me thinks there was a greater chance of Mommy getting out of the car than me. Me isn't stupid.

We watched the bear until hims disappeared and then we drove to the end of tha road and stopped. Me decided it was safe then to stick me head out tha window and growled and woofed a couple times just to let that ole bear know that Murphy the Bear Dog was in tha area and ready to take him on. Me is pretty smart for a boxer and knows that if you is going to threaten something as big as that ole bear you certainly don't do it near where tha bear is. Mommy was really excited about seeing tha bear and so was me. Wow a bear, who would have thought that me, Murphy, would ever get to see a bear.

Me can't wait to see what the rest of tha long weekend has in store for me.

Me is not a tattletale

Miss Pitty Pat says me is a tattletale and this is not tha truth at all. See this is what happened. Last night we was all sitting in tha den trying to escape tha heat. Mommy had opened tha sliding glass door to tha outside and had tha screen door in place. There was only one problem with having the screen door in place. See a couple weeks ago Mommy had put me outside and shut tha screen and forgotted me was out there. Me wanted to come back inside and so me pushed at the bottome of the screen door and pushed the screen out and came back inside. The screen hasn't been fixed and there is the problem.

So back to me story. We was all sitting in tha den trying to escape tha heat and suddenly me realized something was not right. Me kept whining and woofing at Mommy and hers would say "Hush Murphy" or "Murphy lay down and be quiet". Hers just didn't understand me was trying to tell her something really important. Me didn't give up though, me kept worrying Mommy and finally hers said "Murphy do you need to go outside?" Well finally!! Yes me needed to go outside and so did her. We got to tha back door and Mommy opened tha screen door and said "Let's go outside" well me knew right away hers wasn't going to go outside with me so me had to do something and fast cause time was wasting so me just stood in tha middle of tha kitchen and barked at her. Mommy walked out tha door and said "Murphy come". Well me has to obey that command cause me was trained to but that was okay cause her was outside now too and that's what me wanted her to do. Me runned right over to that patio table and woofed and Mommy said "Miss Pitty Pat what are you doing out here?"

Finally!!! Me knew that ole kitty was outside and wasn't supposed to be. Hers had pushed through tha torn screen (me fault) and escaped. Miss Pitty Pat isn't supposed to go outside cause hers won't stay in tha back yard. Mommy is afraid her will go to tha park and maybe get eaten by a coyote. Mommy scooped that kitty up and brought her back inside. And that is why me is a tattletale or at least that is what Miss Pitty Pat is calling me now. Mommy says me was a good dog and let her know that her little kitty was outside and her was proud of me. Miss Pitty Pat hasn't spoken to me all day today but me don't care cause Mommy would be so very sad if something happened to her Miss Pitty Pat.

Pizza Night

Me just loves it when Mommy and Daddy decides it's Pizza Night at our house. Mommy decided it was just to hot to do any cooking for dinner tonight. Me thinks her was just being a little bit lazy cause her had a perfectly lovely piece of beef in tha fridgerator. Her says her forgot to put it in tha crockpot. Anyway cause Mommy didn't feel like cooking thems deemed it was Pizza Night and Daddy ordered a pizza for us.

When the Pizza guy came to tha house with our pizza me decided it would be a good thing to go outside when Daddy wasn't looking and greet this deliverer of wonderful food so out me bounded. Daddy didn't think it was such a good idea and made me come back inside. Heck all me wanted to do was give the pizza man a big ole boxer kiss as a thank you.

Daddy paid tha pizza man and broughted that pizza inside for us to have for dinner. This is how it works when we have pizza night. Daddy and Mommy fill their plates with a couple slices of pizza and goes to watch the telebision and me goes and sits very attentively in front of Mommy to wait for her to give me the crust that her doesn't eat. This is a very good plan cause Mommy doesn't waste and food and me gets to have pizza. When Mommy finishes hers pizza me goes and sits very attentively in front of Daddy and wait for his handouts. The only thing is Daddy eats all of his pizza so me don't get any pizza from him. Tonight me had 3 pieces of pizza crust and it was yummy!! Me is sure if me vet Dr. Caldwell knew about this her would not be happy but me isn't going to tell her.

Happy Summer Solistice

This has been a berry interesting week for this Boxer Pup. Monday there was an accident and it wasn't me fault, really!!! See Daddy and Mommy went off to tha work places and left me out of me crate like thems been doing. The problem was this, usually Daddy comes home during tha day and him lets me outside while hims here. Monday hims was gone all tha live long day and that's when tha accident happened that wasn't me fault. Me had to pee really bad and me tried really, really hard not to go inside. Me almost made it til thems got home but it happened, the accident in the den. Me was lucky that Mommy and Daddy understood and wasn't mad at me. This was the first accident me had in almost 7 months.

Mommy had a wonderful idea. Hers thought that maybe they could put the kitties downstairs in Daddy's office and shut the door. Then thems could leave the sliding glass door open just enough for me to go in and out, just like a pet door. This is the bestest idea hers has ever had cause this whole week both Mommy and Daddy has been gone from 6:30 in tha morning until 4:30 or 5:00 and me can go outside and suntan or come inside and sleep on tha sofa. And best of all, me gets more exercise cause me can run around the back yard and play. Me hasn't had anymore accidents either since me can go outside when me wants too.

Tha other thing that happened was me had to go see Dr Caldwell for a checkup and some shots. Hers said me was very handsome and in excellent health and hers also suggested that Mommy might want to get some over that counter medicine to wipe me face with cause me has doggie acne and hers doesn't want it to turn into something serious. Her also suggested that Mommy should get me a wading pool to play in. Me thinks this is a very wonderful idea cause me really loves to play in tha water. Me hopes her goes and gets me a wading pool soon. After all today is tha first day of summer. Murphy

Me is a really bonefide full grown dog for sure. Me knows this cause me has not been crated for 3 weeks. The only time me has to go into the crate now is if me is being a bad dog or gets to excited. Of course this means me has new responsibilities as a grownup dog. Me is now really responsible for being a guard dog while Mommy and Daddy is away from the house. Most of the time this is not a problem cause me likes to sit on me ottoman in tha living room and look out the picture window. It's been really hot and when it gets really hot me gets really sleepy and has to take naps all throughout tha day even when me is on guard duty.

Yesterday Mommy and Daddy wented out to see a moobee and left me to guard the house. This was okay cause me likes to gurad the house but it is really hard work and it was getting really warm in tha house and it made me sleepy. So me decided to take a little break (thats what ya do when you works, ya take breaks) and go lay on tha love seat in that den where it was really cool and dark. Me knows me hadn't been napping very long but sure enough while me was all curled up and comfy on tha love seat in walks Mommy and Daddy.

Mommy is used to me meeting hers at the top of the stairs when hers comes in through tha garage door. Not today........today me didn't greet her. Mommy went into that living room and looked, no Murphy. Hers went up stairs and looked, no Murphy. Hers asked Daddy "wheres Murphy". This whole time me was curled up on tha love seat snoozing. Hers came back into tha den and saw me in tha dark and said "MURPHY you is suppose to be gurading the house!" Me woked up and saw her there and me had to hang me head cause me had been busted. Sleeping on tha job. Me was worried hers would bust me down the ranks from House Dog First Class to House Dog in tha Dog House Class.

Hers didn't bust me down tha ranks. Nope not me Mommy. Hers gave me another chance today when hers and Daddy went out to run errands and me went to tha ottoman in tha living room and put me nose on tha window and watched for burglars just like a gurad dog should.

Mommy has a friend Kathy who lives in Florida. Kathy sent Mommy some pictures of her baby girl Sasha. Sasha is a little Pug. We thought we would share them pictures with our friends. Kathy, Mommy says if you are looking at the me blog she hopes you don't mind us posting these cute pictures of Sasha. We just wanted everyone to see how beautiful hers is.

Mommy finally downloaded her pictures from her trip so now me can post some of me other dog family and human family in Virginia. Oh and Mommy promised that the next time hers goes back to Virginia hers is taking me and Daddy.

This is a picture of Mommy's human girl Tara and her little Rat Terrier Drew. Mommy says hims looks like an Aardvark cause of hims coloring and big ears. And hims wears clothes all the time too.









Here is Mr Drew again. Hims is 6 months old and only weighs about 4 pounds. Me thinks hims might be smaller than me friend Frogknot.











This Mommy holding that little Drew dog. Mommy says me wasn't that little when hers brought me home at 3 months old and this puppy is 6 months old. Her also said this is one sneaky little Rat Terrier. Hims would run up onto her lap and lay there and then reach up and nip her tummy. Me would never ever nip me Mommy!







This handsome old man is Max the Maxium Pup although Mommy says hims is no longer a puppy but an older gentleman of 11 which is 77 in dog year, but don't tell him he's a Senior Citizen. Max was Mommy's second Boxer. Her says we are marked the same except him is Boxer and something where me is Boxer and American Bulldog.






Mommy says there is more pictures but hers thinks these is enough for me to post. Me is going to get to meet Max and Drew the next time hers goes to VA. Me sure hopes thems likes me.

Welcome home Mommy

In case anybody was wondering, me has not had access to a computer for a week. Mommy wented on a bacation to Virginia to see her human children and left me at home with Daddy. She had tha door to her office closed so me couldn't get to tha computer in there. Daddy stays on hims computer all tha time so me couldn't use it either. Mommy got home today and me is able to use tha computer again. Me sure did miss Mommy too!!!

Mommy said hers had a really good time visiting with hers children and grandchildren. Hers took lots of pictures and says her will let me see them and help me post them her later this week. Me can't wait to see pictures of litte Drew the rat terrier and Max the boxer.

A very important week

This has been a very important week in the life of this not so little Boxer Puppy. Remember Mommy and Daddy lifted me alone and out of the crate on Sunday for all day and me didn't have any accidents or get into any trouble. Mommy and Daddy decided that maybe it was time to trust their Boxer boy and leave me out all day while thems went off to work. It has been a wonderful week of freedom for me. If Daddy gets tha chance hims comes home to let me outside for a little while and then hims goes back to work. Mommy says me has a very important job to do now that me is a big boy and that job is to guard the house while thems is away. Me takes this responsibility very very seriously too!!!!! When thems leaves the house them says "Murphy, guard the house" and me trots right over to me ottoman in front of the picture window and sits there looking out the window and watching for burglars. When thems comes home, there me is right where thems left me too.

Now don't think me just sits there all day. See being a bonifide guard dog means you has to patrol the house and that's what me does too. Me patrols the den and naps on the love seat, then me patrols the upstairs and if the bedroom door is open me will do in there and patrol and sometimes get up on the bed with Miss Pitty Pat and nap. Then it's back down to the living room to patrol some more from the sofa and another nap. After patrolling there for awhile me sometimes goes down to Daddy's office to patrol from the futon. See all this patrol is hard work and me has to take lots of naps.

Oh yeah me got some new clothes yesterday too. Mommy broughted me home a beautiful new black and orange flame collar that has "Harley Davidson" emblems on it. It's very nice and doesn't fall off me neck and head like me choke collar. Me likes it a lot.

Red letter day

This has been a very important day for a not so little boxer pup. This morning Mommy took me fo a walk and guess what?? Me was walking with Mommy off tha leash. We walked for about 30 minutes and hers had the leash attached to me collar by both ends and laid across me back as a handle incase her needed to reach down for it. Well hers only reached for it once and that was when we passed a really old Chow that me showed a slight interest in. Other than that we walked the whole way without Mommy holding the leash at all. This is a wonderful thing.

Even bettern is this. Mommy and Daddy decided to go on an afternoon road trip to a Holy Cross Abbey Winery and then to the Royal Gorge. Do you know what thems did, them lefted me out of the crate the whole time thems was gone and that was for almost 7 hours. Me was a really good Boxer too. Me didn't mess in the house or tear up anything. Me did just what Mommy and Daddy said and that was to guard the house. Me thinks them is going to start leaving me out while thems is a work. Isn't this exciting??? And the best part of all, to reward me for being so good, Mommy gave me the rest of a pork roast as an hors de voure before dinner and then some of thems flank steak for dinner. It's good to be a dog.

Getting Me Nails Clipped

Well this was certainly an interesting day. Mommy decided that today would be a really good day to get me toe nails clipped. Hers said the last time them was clipped was when me got fixed in March. Me don't remember it cause apparently me was still asleep. Well me was WIDE AWAKE today. We wented to PetCo and this really nice lady (who likes boxers a lot) tried to clip me nails. Daddy had to wrestle me to the floor to try to hold me still while the nice lady clipped me nails. Me has decided this is not a very pleasant experience and can't decide why Mommy would put me through this torture. Mommy thinks it would be a good idea to have me toe nails clipped every couple months. Personally, me don't think it's a good idea at all. Just take me for lots of walks and that should work a lot better.

There is fire works being let off outside. It must be cause it's Memorial Day Weekend. Me wasn't sure what that meant or why there is fire works but Mommy explained it to me. Hers says this weekend is to remember those men and women who served in the Armed Forces past and present. Hers said her Daddy was a veteran of World War I and the Korean War and that her has a nephew who was in the Airforce so we is memorializing them. So thank you Granddaddy Carroll and cousin Shannon for keeping us free and safe.

Mommy's Cranky

It's really, really hot today and Mommy is really, really cranky. Her says her must be adapting to Colorado after almost 6 years cause even her thinks it's hot. And me just learned that when Mommy is hot hers gets really cranky and me doesn't like it one little bit. Her gets really short tempered with me and fusses, "Murphy move, Murphy lay down, Murphy get off me". This is not how Mommy normally is either so me hopes it don't stay hot to long. Me doesn't get cranky when me gets hot, me justs goes finds a nice cool spot on the floor and takes a nap until its cool outside.

Daddy had to work late today and when him left to go to this call him left me out of the crate til Mommy got home from work. Me was a really good puppy too. When Mommy got home me was laying on the couch in the living room guarding the house (well me was really sleeping but me won't tell Mommy that). Then Mommy went out to get something to eat and hers lefted me out again. Me is hoping that it won't be long before thems leaves me out all the time and the crate will be just a safe place for me when me gets a little out of control. Maybe Saturday me can prove meself cause Mommy and Daddy is going to a cookout. If them will leave me out to guard the house me will show them what a good boy me is. Come on Mommy and Daddy just give me a chance.

Thunder storms and other things

This is scary. There is really, really high winds tonight. Mommy says there is a thunder storm warning for our county. Me isn't scared of thunder but this wind is really unsettling for a little boxer puppy. Me even heard Mommy and Daddy discussing going to the basement incase there was tornado. Me guesses them doesn't know that dogs and cats would know if something like that was going to happen. We have a 6th sense when it comes to weather that is not normal. Me thinks that there isn't no tornado coming but me is a little bit nervous anyway. Me isn't used to hearing the wind like this. Usually when tha wind gets really high it's during the night and we is all asleep.

This is a very strange story on the news tonight. Peoples are bringing them pets into the vets because them is hooked on drugs like Cocaine and Meth as well as over the counter drugs. This is awful. How could pets get like this? Why would thems peoples give their pets drugs or leave drugs in places where them pets can get them. This is so sad. Humans should realize how lucky them is to have us animals for friends.

Mommy says the drugs aren't always illegal drugs either, sometimes them gets over the counter drugs. Mommy says her is careful to keep all her over the counter drugs up hign in tha medicine cabinet and hopes everybody else does too. Hers even has the sedatives left over from me was "fixed" up out of the way so thems doesn't get accidently eaten. Me is so glad that Mommy and Daddy are good pet owners.

Gottcha Day

Tomorrow is me "Gottcha Day" Mommy brought me home a year ago tomorrow. Hers said hers had picked me out on tha 20th but her actually got me on tha 23rd. Me hopes there is some treats and presents for a puppy's "Gottcha Day"

In the dog house

Well actually me is in the dog crate. See me was a bad puppy today or at least that's what Mommy says. You remember that wonderful new dog bed Mommy boughted me for me crate?? Well me ate it today while me was in the crate. Mommy was not happy when hers came home from work and found pieces of the dog bed all over tha place including on me nose and lips. Her told Daddy that was it!! No more dog beds for me and the crate. Hers thinks me destorys the beds in me crate cause me gets bored and hers is right. Me does get bored being in there for 3-4 hours or more during the day with only a bone to chew on so me tears up me bed. In fact Mommy thought it might be interesting to leave me out if Daddy is only going to be gone for 3-4 hours during the late afternoon. This would be a really good test to see if me could be a really good boy. Me sure hopes thems tries this new idea.

Happy Mother's Day

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!

Me wants to wish me dog mother (where ever hers is ) and me human mother a very happy Mother's Day!!!

Me must have been a really, really good Boxer this week or else these are early "Gottcha" Presents. Mommy broughted home a new bed for me crate and then hers and Daddy went to PetCo (thems didn't take me) and came home with two new heavy duty toys for me. Thems only let me have one of them though. It's a big hard rubber chicken bone. Me thinks Mommy likes it a lot cause her keeps wandering around the house chanting something about "Chicken bone, chicken bone, wheres that darned ole chicken bone" or "Chicken bone, chicken bone, Murphy fetch that chicken bone" and then hers laughs. This is very strange behavior for Mommy cause hers normally only pickups up me toys and doesn't have anything to say about them. Hers says it has to do with another little dog her human boy had who was named Sudsy. It was a little Boston Terrier and thems would chant that song to it when it played with its chicken bone. Humans can be very, very strange.

A break through

Me is so excited and Mommy and Daddy is so proud of me. Do you know why?? This is why, see Daddy took me on a walk tha other day and hims decided to take tha leash off me and trust me to stay beside him while we walk. Me didn't let him down either. Me stayed right beside him just like hims wanted me to do. Mommy took tha day off from work and hers took me for two walks today. The first walk was around tha lake and her would drape tha leash across me back and let me walk beside her without holding tha leash. When hers saw peoples coming hers would reach down and get tha leash. Hers even took me over to see a Prairie Dog Village and me just sat there and looked at them silly things. Tha only time me got in trouble was when........you guessed it..........a rabbit appeared. Them darn ole rabbits!!!!

Then later in tha morning Mommy took me for another little short walk. We went on tha trail and Mommy took the leash completely off me and me stayed right beside her. Hers was so proud of me. Me likes it when thems is proud of me. Daddy says little steps in trusting me to be a good dog and do what me should is what needs to be done. Him says slowly thems will allow more distractions while me is walking off leash.

We's getting a new back fence

This is very exciting news. We is getting a new back fence and guess what? Daddy doesn't have to build it. Hims is only helping pay for it. Our neighbor behind us is going to build tha fence and hims wants to start tomorrow. See we have this lattice type fence seperating our backyards and you can see right through it and so there is no privacy. Now normally this isn't a big deal cause thems has a really nice back yard to look at and really nice kitty that comes to the fence to visit with me but sometimes it is a problem. Mommy says it would be nice to go out in tha back yard and not feel obligated to talk to tha neighbors cause thems can see you out there.

There is going to be one little, itty, bitty problem while this fence is getting builded. Me won't be able to run loose in tha back yard. Daddy promised him would take me out on a leash but see me and Mommy goes out back to play ball in tha evening when hers gets home. If the fence is being fixed then me can't run loose to play ball. Maybe Mommy will take some pictures so she can show everybody tha new fence.

Yard work and walks

Me learned something this weekend and this is what it was. If me wants to go for a walk me has to stay out of the way when Mommy and Daddy is doing the yard work and house work too. You would think cause me letted them sleep in yesterday morning and this morning thems would want to take me for a walk right away. NOPE this is not how it works on the weekends. See first thems has to get up and have some coffee and read the newspaper. This would be fine if thems would let me have some coffee too but Mommy says me has enough energy and coffee would only make me worse. Then thems had to talk about what needed to be done and this took some more time. Now me may only be a dog but it seems to me that this is something that could have been done while thems was walking me.

After deciding who was going to do what the house work began and when that was finished the yard work. Now here's the thing about yard work, me has to stay in tha house when thems doing it in the front yard. When thems moves to tha back yard me is put in tha outside kennel for safe keeping. Well that's what Mommy says anyway. Hers says it's not a good idea for me to be barking and snapping at the lawn mower or the weed eater. Hers says the weed eater could make me already short nose even shorter if me got to close. Once thems got all this work done, without any help from me, then thems had to sit and rest for awhile. Me did get to finally go for a walk later in tha afternoon.

Oh yeah, Mommy says a really important day is coming soon. This day is May 23 and is the day hers went and got me and broughted me home to be hers and Daddy's dog. Hers says this day is as important as having a birthday. Hers says in a way me has two birthdays, one to mark the day me was actually born and the other to mark the day me became a part of hers and Daddy's family. Me sure hope this means they is going to have a party.

April Showers May Flowers??

This has been one rainy week. Mommy says there is an saying that goes "April Showers bring May flowers" and Daddy says "May flowers bring tha pilgrims" of course hims being funny. Any way me is wondering what all these May showers bring. It has been raining all week and all month. Okay so tha month is only 4 days old but that's beside tha point. We have a sprinkler system to keep the grass and flowers green so what do we need this rain for?? Tha problem with all of this rain is this, Mommy and Daddy can't take me for a walk. Tha last time me got to go for a walk was on Sunday and here it is Thrusday and nothing but rain. This is not fair!! Me has to go for walks or otherwise me has to much energy and it gets me into trouble. Me sure hopes tha sun comes back soon. Oh yeah all this rain has made tha grass grow really tall but it's to wet to mow. It it keeps up me won't be able to find me way from tha back yard to tha back door. All this grass also means Mommy andDaddy needs to do yard work and this will interfer with me play time and walk time.
